Innovation, fusion, interdisciplinary nature or pedagogy are some of the concepts that best describe the creative line of the BCP.
The Group, formed in 2010, includes four members of the Barcelona Municipal Wind Band (Banda Municipal de Barcelona). Shortly after its formation, the BCP were invited to participate in the Fifth National Clarinet Congress and the Second European Clarinet Congress held in Madrid in December 2011, and later in the ClarinetFest 2015 hosted in Madrid as well.
The quartet works in close collaboration with Auditori of Barcelona where they performed their first concert in January 2013, followed by the premier of the cycle ' Denominació d'Origen' and the successful production of 'Ideas del frío' (Cold Thoughts) within the cycle 'Escenes' (Scenes) in collaboration with Clown Leandre. During 2016, they will premier the concert 'Planeta Clarinet' (Planet Clarinet) commisioned by Auditori's educational service and intended for families and children aged 0-8 in particular. In addition, this season sees them as resident artists at Ateneo Barcelonés.
The BCP have participated in important festivals such as La Mercé of Barcelona in 2013 with 'Quíen es Till?' (Who is Till?) and La Fira Tarrega in 2015 in Clown Leandre's show 'Iceberg'.
As a result of their wish to integrate other artistic disciplines into their concerts, they received guidance of the prestigious ballerina and coreographer Sol Picó, and shared the stage with the painter Marina Comas and the poet and translator Arnau Pons. It is noteworthy that their first video clip 'Ragtime' by director Ibai Abad was awarded in the Videoclassics competition within the Festival de Pasqua de Cervera in 2012.
Their projects and performance aroused such interest that composers Pedro Iturralde (who rearranged much of his work for the BCP and whose music features in the group's first recording), Enric Palomar, Jose Rafael Pasqual Vilaplana, Óscar Navarro or Helmut Hoedl have composed for them and the companies Selmer and Vandoren have chosen them as representative artists.
The present and the future of the BCP will be marked by concerts, pedagogical projects, recordings, new commissions (by Josep Maria Guix, Joan Magrané, Bernat Vivancos or Joan Vidal among others), always ensuring full integration in society and responding to its time and needs.
